Passing The Test

Dan Clarke’s year-long habit of topping the time sheets has continued into the off season with his outstanding display of pace and versatility at the recent Grand Am test at Kansas Speedway. The Indianapolis based Englishman posted the quickest times in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge ST Class in the Compass360 Racing Honda Civic Si.

Dan’s pace and the manner in which he got to grips with Kansas Speedway’s tricky combination of oval and road course elements impressed C360R boss, Karl Thompson. "It was a real pleasure to finally get a chance to work with Dan during our test at Kansas in October. We'd heard great things from his IndyCar teams, but also from the ITC Cayman team he ran for, and it was nice to see him deliver everything we'd hoped,” Thompson explained. He went on to put Clarke’s performance in greater context, “Dan was quick from his first session out in an unfamiliar car on a brand new track, and he delivered the fastest lap of the weekend during his final stint. We look forward to having him drive one of our Hondas again soon."

Despite the relative lack of track time and his level of unfamiliarity with the car, Clarke felt like he made the most of the opportunity to test for the one of the CTSCC’s premier teams. "The FWD Honda Civic is a much different beast than what I'm used to and such a contrast from the Cayman I have driven all year in the ITC Series.”

The 2012 Intercontinental Trophy Series Champion is aiming to defend his title in 2013 while looking at additional opportunities in professional GT racing. Clarke knows he must make the most of every chance he gets to impress. “It was a great opportunity to prove my worth and thank the Compass360 team for giving me a chance to show I can be a front runner in a different style of car.” Dan went on to explain how much he enjoyed the challenge of testing himself against established GT professionals, “It was a sheer pleasure tackling the challenges of the ST car and having other pro drivers to compare myself against. With just two 35min sessions it felt great to come out on top in the class for the whole weekend. The team and I are working hard to have me in the car next year and be a title contender. I'm pumped at the possibility of racing against some of the best professional sports car drivers in one of the toughest series currently in the US. I just hope the numbers can eventually add up for the budget and something can work out before the first race starts."
